Guest Post Penalties

As per the new update, Google is now more critical towards finding unnatural outbound links. The websites that publish guest posts may be poked if any outbound links are supported. Therefore, guest post publishing will be penalized so that the publisher keeps a note for outbound links.

Websites that do not want to lose the authority will take a strict action to keep a check on guest post manual actions. Else they can end up losing outbound link authority.

An outbound link penalty results in stopping the Page rank and its flow is shut down from the website. If the detection of guest posts is disabling the rights, website owners must see that they are not under the penalty criteria.

Manual Action From Google:

There has been more than one instance where people spoke about the action taken by Google for the guest posts receiving no-follow. Also, the websites have crashed down so that they can check on the guidelines and then submit a review request for the website.

Outbound links that redirect the user to the wrong pages are considered spam. It is possible that you did not place these links, but as these links are spam, they shall be removed from your website.

What is Google expecting?

After receiving the mails, people have been questioning if the Guest posts have to be stopped entirely. Google states that it is completely about the paid guest posts. The outbound links that include branded anchor text will be checked.

Google is critical over such posts as it can easily coin out the link out of several thousand that is benefiting the website owner.

How to avoid the outbound link penalty?

It is easier than you think to avoid the penalties on outbound links:

  • Keep a check that you are not promoting any spam links. Any website that is trying to deceive the search engines will be penalized. If the readers or visitors on your website are being deceived by the information you are giving them, Google will pick on you.
  • If you are running a public forum, ensure to follow a rel=nofollow tag on the public comments. You can also completely disable the links by showing them as text.
  • Guest posts can have links to other websites, but these redirected websites should not spam sites. You can check for this by clicking on the links. The main aim is to not deceive the visitors and offer them valid information.
  • If you let the links stay on the website in exchange for money, goods or services, these will be considered a paid link and a penalty can be triggered.

Remember that links that can enhance user-experience are beneficial to your website. You only have to give a check on the spam links. Therefore, only carefully chosen links must be placed on your platform.

Google’s warning includes adding nofollow attribute, which speaks that guests’ posts are accepted but links embedded in those posts must be avoided for any spam redirection. Sponsored links must be avoided until Google announces the guidelines and warnings to outbound links formally.

There are compensations mentioned in the emails issued by Google, which clarifies that the main purpose is to remove the paid links and not let them influence the search results. The unnatural links will soon be removed from the several platforms so that user experience can be improved significantly.
